چکیده

Background The use of ultrasonic devices has been shown to be very successful for the removal of various canal obstructions.3-5 The use of ultrasonics is advantageous over conventional methods for removal of separated instruments as it is able to set separated instruments free from canals while making the sacrifice of dentin significantly less.6 However, there are several negative factors when using ultrasonics for the removal of separated files. First, ultrasonics sometimes causes secondary fracture of separated files, as shown in Figures 1a and 1b. Ward et al,7 in a study using ultrasonics to remove separated files from simulated canals and extracted teeth, observed that a portion of the separated instrument would occasionally break off from the original fragment, leaving a shorter fragment behind. Smaller fragments are more difficult to remove than larger fragments, and the removal rates are low for fragments that are located apical to the canal curvature.810 Secondly, ultrasonic vibration sometimes pushes the separated file out of the canal, as shown in Figures 2a and 2b. Thirdly, aggressive use of ultrasonics sometimes results

Retrieval of a separated file using Masserann technique: a case report.

The separated instrument particularly a broken file leads to metallic obstruction, in the root canal and blocks thorough cleaning and shaping procedure. When attempts of bypassing such a fragment go in vain, it should be retrieved by mechanical devices. Masserann Kit is one such device for orthograde removal of intracanal metallic obstructions. This clinical case demonstrates usage of Masserann...

Remedying and preventing endodontic rotary nickel-titanium (NiTi) file breakage.

Of all the procedural problems that can occur when practicing dentistry, endodontic file breakage is one dilemma that not only can lead to extreme stress for the clinician, but can cause great anxiety for the patient as well. Separated rotary nickel-titanium (NiTi) files can also pose an increased risk of post-endodontic complications. Understanding why and how endodontic file breakage occurs, ...

A method for retrieving endodontic or atypical nonendodontic separated instruments from the root canal: a report of two cases.

AIM This clinical report presents a new method for retrieving separated instruments from the root canal with minimally invasive procedures. BACKGROUND The presence of separated instrument in root canal may interfere in the endodontic treatment prognosis. There are several recommended methods to retrieve separated instruments, but some are difficult in clinically practice. CASE REPORT This s...
